Novelist Brit Bennett grew up in Southern California and received an undergraduate degree in English from Stanford University.  She later attended the University of Michigan for her MFA in Creative Writing, where she won a Hopwood Award in Graduate Short Fiction as well as the 20124 Hurston/Wright Award for College Writers.  Her debut novel, The Mothers, was published in 2016, followed by The Vanishing Half in 2020.  Other work is featured in The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, The Paris Review, and Jezebel.
